Why the Graco?

I have seen many review sites comparing airless paint sprayers. They will often compare different companies that produce said sprayers.

I am not like the other ones though, how lucky we are! I believe when it comes to airless sprayers only 1 company stands out as the clear leader in the group.

Graco has been producing airless sprayers for over 60 years and are built in the good ol USA. I have used other sprayer rigs made by other companies, but have found Graco to be the most consistent in out of the box quality.

Affordability

To the novice or DIYer these may look like a “Aha!” moment. The “Magnum” line of airless offerings is definitely that for those people.

Under $400 dollars for the X5 on Amazon, is a moderate but highly affordable price. Offering the ability to spray a maximum of 125 gallons per year.

I would not recommend this for professional or daily use.

Durability

This question is really hard to answer. The durability of any airless can honestly come down to user precautions.

Proper cleaning and storing can extend the life of the worst manufacturers of sprayers. Pump armor should be used for long periods of storage.

The X5 only recommends up to a .015 tip size. Why does this effect durability? A bigger tip will make the pump work harder, simple as that.

I wouldn’t ever use anything bigger than a .014 for any common homeowner paint. Its not needed. Anything bigger will increase the likelihood of fingers or lines in on the edge of your spray path.

Fingers in paint swathes are hard to remove even with back rolling of paint.

In lay mans terms, a 413 tip is usually all a person needs. The 4 being the fan width and of course the 13 being the orifice size.

Mobility

Weighing in at an only 13.2 pounds for the X5. I would say that the X5 is probably the lightest true airless on the market.

This sprayer is ideal for homeowners who do yearly maintenance on their house or have one property to manage. The compact and lightweight nature of these two even lends itself to professional use considering the footprint they consume on a work van.

For the handyman homeowner, its a simple re-boxing and put in the garage cabinet.

Versatility

Spraying of “thinner” paints would be its only use however. Using these sprayers for the entire exterior of a house for two coats would definitely cause wear and tear.

Painting outside is another monster in itself. Paint dries out quickly in the heat and creates skins in a persons product they are using.

Bigger pumps can handle a small amount of this byproduct fairly efficiently. When using this budget line extra due diligence will be necessary.

Covering your product with a drop, or plastic to keep from drying out is a must. Any thicker paint should be avoided or used at a very minimum. Block filler, dry fall, and definitely no epoxies should be used.
